ARC CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR ALL SKY ASTROPHYSICS IN 3D
ASTRO 3D is committed to expanding the public impact of our astronomy research. In collaboration and partnership with many outreach providers, we are bringing together our team of Outreach experts and astrophysics researchers to build a suite of programs that will inspire Australians to value our astronomical research and STEM more broadly.
We are focussed on helping the public understand our astronomy research and understand the amazing discoveries the Centre is making. To do that, we target audiences both online and in real-life hands-on activities and events.
We have developed and will continue to develop Outreach displays that can be used to explain our science a broad audience at the many events dedicated to science and astronomy. Some of these include:
Uluru Astronomy Weekend
Science in ACTion in Canberra
Perth Science Festival
Astrolight Festival in Melbourne
Siding Springs Open Day
Astrofest in Perth
Many of our astronomers have and are available to present their research in a variety of settings, from more formal Astronomical Society of Australia public lectures to Science in the Pub. They are a fantastic way to discover more about what ASTRO 3D does, in a way we can all understand!
Astronomers in Residence
Our astronomers have also volunteered their time at places such as Ayers Rock Resort, to chat to the public and join in stargazing, to add their unique knowledge to an amazing night. We are looking to expand this program so that more people have access to more astronomers.
ASTRO 3D is developing a new Planetarium show, building on the wonderful work done by the CAASTRO team with their full-length production Capturing the Cosmos which was produced in conjunction with Museums Victoria. The ASTRO 3D show will focus on our science and take us on a journey from the start of the Universe to the present day.
ASTRO 3D has an active presence on most social media platforms. We use these to highlight our research results, blog posts, highlight events (including live tweeting!) and share interesting facts and events.
