Dear ASTRO 3D members,
Registration is now open for the workshop titled “Apples to oranges: a comparison of the simulated and observed Universe”, scheduled for the week of Nov. 18-22nd, 2019 in New South Wales, Australia. The focus of this workshop will be on facilitating a fair and meaningful comparison of simulations and observations across sub-galactic, galactic, and halo scales. This is a successor to a previous ASTRO 3D workshop held in the Barossa Valley last year, and will take place in another fabulous Australian wine region, the Hunter Valley.
Our plan is that this workshop will be highly interactive, with several invited talks each day and the remaining time divided between science highlights and less-structured time to focus on developing projects. We therefore encourage that all participants arrive with an idea of what they’d like to take away at the end of the workshop.
You can find some basic information about the workshop here: https://jtmendel.wixsite.com/apples-to-oranges
The event will be held at the Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort (https://www.oakshotels.com/en/oaks-cypress-lakes-resort). The registration fee for the workshop is AUD$450 (~USD$305), which includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea, and a welcome BBQ dinner on Monday evening. The Oaks Resort offers a range of room options from single rooms (AUD$165/night) to 2/3/4 bedroom Villas (AUD$200-550/night). On-site childcare will be provided.
To register your interest, please fill out the form here: https://forms.gle/KnYEQKqwSTf8iGqa7 by no later than Wednesday, September 27th. We will then contact you with a way to pay the registration fee.
Please get in touch if you have any questions, and we hope to see you all in the Hunter Valley!
Cheers,
Emily Wisnioski on behalf of the SOC
