Biography

Simon's astronomy research is focused on the first galaxies and their impact on the evolution of the Universe, which he studies using simulations run on national HPC facilities. He is the lead author and maintainer of the Meraxes semi-analytic galaxy formation model and core member of the Genesis Simulations group. He is also a Research Data Specialist in the University of Melbourne's Data Analytics Platform (MDAP). Through this role, he collaborates with academics in areas such as climate science, ecology, medicine, and business, to help uplift their digital research capabilities. In addition, Simon is an inaugural Science and Technology Australia STEM Ambassador, a position which sees him meet with federal policy and decision makers to advocate for the importance of STEM and related fields.
